Jan grew up in D’Kar and started his art career with the Kuru Art Project in January 2005. Before that he worked as a mechanic at a motor mechanics firm. He is a very dedicated artist and specifically enjoys printmaking. In his earlier years he used to make wood carvings which he sold to tourists and craft buyers.
